Minal Dakhave Bhosale | Woman Behind First Covid-19 Testing Kit in India
Battle against Corona in India: A woman who made two deliveries simultaneously!
?Strong women aren?t simply born. They are forged through the challenges of life.?
Virologist Minal Dakhave Bhosale is surely considered to be one of the strongest women entrepreneurs and the most successful women in India today.
She made her brilliance turn into a blessing for the entire nation.
Minal is the Research and Development Chief of the Mylab Discovery in Pune, which is the first Indian firm to get full approval to make and sell COVID-19 / Corona virus testing kit in India. She has also previously worked on swine-flu disease at NIV Pune. It was during the 2009 outbreak when she worked on this flu.
This Virologist, took the ?IM? out of the word ?IMPOSSIBLE?, by delivering India?s first COVID-19 testing kit for evaluation within the span of only 6 weeks instead of 3 to 4 months, just before the day she delivered a baby girl. She probably began to work on the making of corona virus kit in the month of February, when she was in her last stage of pregnancy.
However, where India ranks 145th among 195 countries in terms of quality and accessibility of healthcare, Minal just uplifted the bar of India?s healthcare system.
Today, the whole world is fighting a battle against the Corona Virus disease (COVID-19), which is an infectious disease that spreads through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze or when a person touches a surface or an object that has virus on it, and then touches their face.
We?re all trying to take severe measures to prevent, protect and keep ourselves and our family away from the virus, either by self-isolation (separating oneself for about a period of 15 days), or remaining in home quarantine or following the lockdown.
But there are several people like Minal Bhosale and her team who are staying away from their families and homes just to save our lives. She did not remain under a lockdown even in the most crucial time of her life. She put India before her personal needs.
According to reports, Minal had submitted the proposal of the COVID-19 testing kit to Indian Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation(CDSCO) for commercial approval on the 18th of March, just before she was taken to the hospital for her Caesarean.
She believes that since she had worked for 5 long years in this field, this was the right time to serve the nation.
Someone has rightly said, ?teamwork makes the dream work!? and that ?unity is strength?. It turned out to be true in Minal?s case.
As per reports, the team did not really have much time for multiple ?trial and error?. Their reputation was at stake and it was either do or die situation for them. They had to make it happen no matter what! They did not stop and before submitting the Covid-19 testing kit, the team checked and re-checked all the parameters to ensure that the tests were accurate and precise. Finally, their hard work paid off as the kit that they?d designed turned out to be perfect!
Minal named this Covid-19 testing kit as ?Patho Detect?. This kit can test about 100 samples at a time and will cost only rupees 1200/- per kit, which is about a quarter of those testing kits from abroad that our government has been spending on until now. They cost us 4,500/- per kit.
This Covid-19 testing kit will not only reduce the time taken for evaluation but will also save the time and money involved in arranging the testing kits from abroad.
Minal is truly an inspiration and a role model to one and all. Her daughter?s birthday will always remind her of her brilliance and bravery. It?s a relief to know that the nation?s collective health rests in safe and nurturing hands. She is currently all over the media and internet winning the hearts of the nation. Minal Dakhave Bhosale has rightly proved that ?A dream does not become a reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and a lot of hard work?, because serving the nation comes first!
