Uttarakhand is a state with diverse geography and bio-diversity. Mountain ranges of the Himalaya, rivers flowing from the glaciers, natural bodies as well as the majority of rural uneducated -population makes it tricky to execute a well-defined plan. With a population of 1.2 billion people, waste management and sanitation are issues that need to be addressed immediately.

Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan, launched in 2014 by the government, has created an impact on even the most remote parts of India. Bhuvan Rawat, engineer turned social activist, has started a movement to make Uttarakhand a clean state with ?Mera Gaon Swachh Gaon? since 2017.

This campaign requires people of the village to spend 2 hours twice a month to clean the surroundings and the streets. Various Mahila Bachat Sangh?s and schools dedicate their time to this movement.

In the absence of government-provided dustbins, villagers recycle oil canisters and set up dust bins.

Apart from picking the broom and cleaning up the state, Bhuvan is also involved in the cause of education.
