Ritesh Agarwal the 25-year-old college dropout from Odisha who founded OYO! Find Out!

blind man

What name pops into your head when you think of booking a budget hotel for a quick trip with friends or maybe a short business trip? The name is most certainly OYO!

Ritesh joined the University of London course at Indian Business School he never went back after reaching the breakthrough of Oravel Travels while he was just 17 years old. Realizing that Indian hotel prices didn?t even meet the very basic needs of a budget traveller, Oravel focused on creating value-based affordable bed and breakfast facilities for Indian tourists.

He was always full of entrepreneurial instincts. While he was preparing for his IIT entrance exams, he would bunk sessions or go out on weekends to meet people who were doing their own business.

At a point, Ritesh sold SIM cards for pocket money. He stayed at his relative?s place at times where he couldn?t claim the remote! The idea behind OYO was ?why not stay On Your Own?? So this 25-year-old created a marketplace for budget hotels with Oravel. The concept was to standardize the experience of staying ina budget hotel.

Ritesh being a college dropout was the only one who did not belong to IIM or IIT. He today heads a team of 10-20 people from IIMs and more than 200 people from IITs and other Ivy leagues.

Masayoshi Son of Softbank endorses the progress of Ritesh and his venture with open arms as he invested in the company?s stakes. Ritesh Agarwal was selected for the ?20 under 20? Thiele Fellowship program, an important achievement that very few Indians have achieved.
