FLOAT AND SINK CITY: A LOOK INTO FUTURISTIC CITIES
Overpopulation is a significant challenge for every human life. The entire world needs to address and tackle this issue, not just a few countries. To overcome the challenge, proposals for self-sustaining floating settlements are being discussed. So why not try and understand a concept that can be applied to various cities? These kids have applied the Archimedes Principle and the Pascal Law to create this model. Archimedes' Principle suggests that when an object is immersed fully or partially in a fluid, the upward force applied by the fluid on the object is the same as the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. Pascal Law states that a pressure change at any point in a confined incompressible fluid is transmitted throughout the fluid such that the same change occurs everywhere. Their current concept is to build a really wide floating framework that is as big as a city. The main purpose of this study is to include a general plan for a floating city and assess the technical viability of such a project.
Floating cities would use resources like local solar energy, recirculating water, and food production to be fully self-reliant. As these cities will stay afloat in the water, floating city structures would maintain a lower centre of gravity, protecting them from strong waves, floods, tsunamis and even
