Farmscrapper: combine technologies to create the ultimate technology.
The current population of the world is 7.7 billion, according to World meters. India hit the mark of 1billion in the year of 2011, according to the India census. The numbers have gone up ever since. The current population of India is close to 1.3billion people. India ranks 2nd position in the worlds? population by contributing a total of 17% to it. India habilitates 17% of the worlds? population in 2.5% of the world's land. These numbers show how immense the pressure is on our resources, economy, and infrastructure. The solution to release some pressure on our resources is to adopt smarter and new technologies dedicated to each problem.
Smart farming is the key to achieve agriculture advancement. Smart agriculture can be defined as farming management using modern technology to increase the quantity and quality of agriculture products. Today, farmers have access to technologies like GPS, soil scanning, data management, etc.
What are vertical farming, aquaponics, and aeroponics?
In vertical farming, the planation is vertically stacked layers, such as in a skyscraper, warehouses or shipping containers. This type of agriculture is an indoor farming technique, where all the environmental factors can be controlled. Environmental factors such as humidity, temperature, and other gases. This practice can use soil, hydroponic, aquaponic, or aeroponic growing methods.
In aquaponic farming system: farming fish and plants together in a combined beneficial cycle. Fish produce wastes that turn into nitrates and ammonia. These aren't good for the fish if they build up too much, but they're great fertilizer for plants. As the plants suck up these nutrients, they purify the water, which is again suitable for fish.
Now in the aeroponic farming system: this system of growing plants in an air or mist environment without the use of soil or any aggregate medium. The words itself explains the meaning. The word aer means air, and the word ponic means labour.
How does the model work?
Farmscraper is a combination of vertical farming with aquaponics and aeroponic method farming. In the farmscape, the first 2 stack layer from the ground has used the aquaponic method of agriculture, where the fish tanks are located near the stacked layer. And the top 2 stack layer has used the aeroponic method of farming, where air or moisture is spread with the help of swindlers which are located on the roof of the model.
Benefits of this type of farming technology are yearly crop production, eliminates runoffs, significantly reduce fossil fuels needed for transport, etc. hence decreasing carbon footprints. As in this farming, all the environmental factors can be controlled; no weather-related crop failure is faced. Further, there is no need to spray insecticides and pesticides. It also solves the problem for space and saves water, too. Thus with the overgrowing population in the world and land being a finite resource, vertical farming with these variations can solve the problem of feeding the masses by using minimum land use.
