Industrial pollution is generally referred to the undesirable outcome when factories (or other industrial plants) emit harmful by-products and waste into the environment such as emissions to air or water bodies (water pollution), deposition on landfills etc (land pollution) or emission of toxic chemicals into the environment. The activities that are causing air pollution include: Burning fossil fuels like oil, natural gas, and petroleum. Untreated gas and liquid waste being released into the environment.
Primary Causes of Industrial PollutionIndustrial pollution is the release of wastes and pollutants generated by industrial activities into the natural environments including air, water, and land. Industrial pollution can adversely damage plants, kill animals, cause ecosystem imbalance, and degrade the quality of life. Leading industries such as power stations, steel mills, sewage treatment plants, heating plants, and glass smelting among other production, processing and manufacturing companies are the contributors to industrial pollution. They release smoke, effluents, material wastes, toxic by-products, contaminated residues, and chemical consumer products that eventually end up in the environment, thereby causing pollution.
The toxic chemicals used by industries in processing and manufacturing are the biggest contributors to industrial pollution. These substances are a threat to attaining quality life and are hazardous to human health and the environment. Industrial facilities across the world generate more than 25 million tonnes of toxic chemicals as production-related wastes and pollutants. These toxic chemical pollutants are released into the environment resulting in various forms of pollution.
This article describes the design of a simple low cost microcontroller-based temperature monitoring system using GSM technique. The temperature monitoring system using GSM undergoes three stages signal conditioning circuit, ADC (Analog-to-Digital converter) and with GSM Modem the message is send to a mobile. ADC is used because microcontroller works with digital inputs. GSM modem can be used to send and receive SMS through AT commands. At the transmitter side, the user sends an SMS to the GSM modem using AT commands. The LM35 is an integrated circuit sensor that can be used to measure temperature with electrical output proportional to the temperature. The LM35 sensor is connected to PIC microcontroller and varying temperature is sent to GSM modem, which is simultaneously displayed in LCD. The GSM modem performs the operation of sending message to a particular SIM number .GSM technology provides users with high quality signal and speech channels, giving them access to high quality digital communication at very affordable rates. GSM network operators can provide their customers with cheaper calling and text messing options.
It is a user-friendly application system. Cell phone can be attached at the place of GSM hardware but it limits the hardware functionality.
