National Technology Day 2020 | History, Theme And Celebrations
Doesn?t technology help to bridge the gap between existing problems and possible solutions?
National Technology Day History
`National Technology Day? is celebrated across India on May 11 every year. It is commemorated to memorize the anniversary of Shakti, the Pokhran nuclear test held on 11th May 1998. The day glorifies the importance of science in day to day life and motivates students to adopt science as a career option.
Pokhran nuclear tests were a series of five nuclear bomb test explosions conducted by India at the Indian Army's Pokhran Test Range. On May 11, 1998, India successfully fired Operation Shakti missile at the Indian Army?s Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan, the first among the five nuclear tests in Pokhran. The test was led by aerospace engineer and late President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Later, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared India a nuclear state, making it the sixth country to join the ?nuclear club? of nations. Hence, since 1999, May 11 is celebrated as ?National Technology Day?. Adding to the day's achievements and importance, the Defence Research and Development Organisation accomplished the last test fire of Trishul missile. The missile was later introduced to the Indian Army and air force.
Apart from the nuclear tests conducted, India?s first indigenous aircraft ? the Hansa 3, a two-seater aircraft designed by the National Aerospace Laboratory ? took flight in the state of Bengaluru.
Every year the Ministry of Science and Technology celebrates National Technology Day on 11th May. The day is considered as a symbol of pursuit for technological creativity, scientific inquiry and the conversion of that pursuit in the integration of society, industry and science. Various events are organized in technical institutions as well as engineering colleges to acknowledge this great occasion. Presentations, interactive sessions, quizzes, lectures and competitions are also held. President of India presents National Technology Award to individuals as well as companies for their immense contribution to science.
How Has Technology Changed The Face Of India?
Let?s look at how technology has changed the face of the Indian market:
? Artificial Intelligence: Google has launched its AI-powered voice assistance, which can make phone calls like real humans. This one thing that has taken over the internet is how far technology can minimize human effort. Businesses are going to benefit as multiple calls can be done with the help of AI-powered voice assistant and will reduce error and can work effortlessly for hours together without taking breaks like humans do.
? Cloud Computing: Cloud computing is a space created virtually to store all the data, which can be used by businesses small or big through internet connectivity. It has become easy for the small businesses to access this data which would earlier prove to be expensive.
? Facial Recognition: Apple had initially started this feature, where the iPhone recognizes the owner from his face and unlocks the phone. This feature is also used in high-security areas and airports for safety and security purposes but that is an expensive affair. Tech giants like Microsoft and Google are also working on the features which can be used in the mainstream by the middle-class people as well.
? Internet: The entire business network is connected through the internet. Right from connecting with each other to meet supply and demand needs, everything is done via internet. There are businesses which work only online and they have grown their business firm on the internet and survive on it. The internet is a common thread that has tied the entire nation.
? Chatbots: The computer answers the queries thrown by the customer and directs them accordingly. This has helped many businesses to run with a little investment. Chatbots have become very common especially in client servicing websites and customer cares. It has also become an integral part of running a business as companies get direct feedback from the customers.
