What is optometry? Optometry is a healthcare profession of measuring vision. An optometrist prescribes and fits lenses to improve vision and detects as well as treats various eye diseases. The term optometry is derived from the Greek word 'optos' which means eye or vision and 'metria' which means measurement. Candidates who have done 2 yearlong diplomas in optometry courses can apply for 2nd year B.Optom degree directly. This entry is known as lateral entry.
If the candidate further wants to continue the studies in this field, then the master of optometry is is one way to go. This master course is of 2 years, and if the candidate further wants to explore this field, then one may go for the Ph.D. program too.
