Have you ever noticed your chat window auto-correct your spelling errors?
Have you ever watched a movie with 3D Glasses?
If yes, then you have already witnessed the potential of Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality.
During the lockdown, we have entered the Indoor Digital World.
Employees are working on their devices, students are taking online lessons, people are using delivery apps. All these tasks can be performed with just a click, within the comfort of our homes, saving the initial travel time.
The latest technology to join the corona safety league is Captain Arjun from the Railway Protection Force.
Captain Arjun is a newly recruited robot to conduct thermal screening and surveillance of passengers to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. He showcases the temperature on a digital panel and sounds an abnormal automatic alarm on detecting a higher temperature. The robot is fitted with a motion-activated spotlight, siren, and in-built internal storage to record data in case of a network failure.
Let us learn more about the power of Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality.
Artificial Intelligence
The term Artificial Intelligence or AI suggests something related to computers or robots. A digital computer or a digitally operated robotic machine is programmed in a way to depict the simulation of human intelligence. Just like a human brain, these machines have reasoning power, analyzing capability and ability to derive insights from past data.
AI is widely spread across all sectors from Finance, Retail, Law, Marketing, Healthcare, etc.
Benefits of Artificial Intelligence:
AI applications have been used across millions of organizations to improve productivity. These applications are programmed to automatically complete repetitive manual work. It also minimizes errors and completes the work with a higher degree of accuracy. Thereby, reducing workload and saving time for other important tasks. The precision level of the output depends on the correctness of backend coding for the particular task.
E.g. Companies have installed chatbots to solve customer queries. The application has been fed with data relating to customer service requests. A chatbot can analyze the query and generate an answer immediately.
Smartphones allow us to make optimal use of AI features. We use several applications right from unlocking our phones through face recognition locks, enjoying music, ordering delicacies, making travel easy via GPS, etc.
E.g. Digital assistants on smartphones like Siri and Cortana help us send messages, provide directions, add events to calendars, search information, etc through speech recognition. Alexa, is another example of a digital personal assistant that responds to voice and assists in everyday life activities like making to-do lists, set alarms, play music, provide weather updates, and more.
AI is widely used in the medical stream. Doctors have been using machines designed with AI technology, it not only helps them assess the patients but also perform surgeries without damaging the surrounding tissues. Artificial surgery simulators are used as a teaching aid in medical studies.
E.g. Computed Tomography (CT) scans are performed on patients to detect several ailments like lung cancer or strokes. Medical students learn by performing heart surgeries on simulators during the training phase.
AI robots and machines are being used in the space exploration process. Due to their metallic bodies, they have more resistant power and can endure the hostile atmosphere. These robots have internal data storage and are fed with information to research and analyze the objects found in space.
E.g. Chandrayaan-2, India?s second moon mission was launched along with an AI rover Pragyan. The rover featured motion technology that helped it land and travel on the lunar surface. The AI technology had enabled the rover to detect water traces and other minerals on the surface. Also, allowing it to capture and send images for research and testing.
Virtual Reality
Have you ever entered a different world while playing a video game? This simulated environment is called Virtual Reality (VR). A user not only views a screen but also immerses and interacts with the 3-D world by using electronic equipment, such as in-built screen helmets or gloves integrated with sensors. The equipment simulates senses such as vision, hearing, touch, smell, etc depending on the program. VR is mainly developed for two purposes- simulation of a real environment for training requirements or a fiction environment for gaming.
Benefits of Virtual Reality:
VR is used as an educational aid to create a unique teaching environment. Virtual set-ups are designed to provide training around various situations, where students and professionals can learn and improve upon their skills.
E.g. Pilots use flight simulators for basic training like learning to land a plane and also handling emergencies like aircraft component failure or malfunction.
VR allows a business to conduct a virtual test run and evaluate the performance before implementing it in the market. Devices are used to help customers have a look at the company's products through VR.
E.g. Tanishq uses VR technology to allow customers to virtually try out their jewellery from home.
Virtual travel to favourite holiday destinations is the current trend. A person wearing the 3-D headgear can sit at home and experience visiting a tourist spot. This technology can also help people to learn about different cultures and traditions.
E.g. The Ministry of Tourism along with Google India has created a 360" />
