India currently has a population of almost 1.34 billion people and is currently increasing at an annual rate of 1.02%. Given the fact that India?s population density is at a mind-boggling 455 people per square kilometer, we have a significant need to create enough space on the land in the territory for housing for the growing population. However, in order to build housing among other amenities required by the population, India has lost a significant amount of its agricultural land, leading to a shortage of food needed to feed the growing population. It is also worth mentioning that forests and other areas thick in vegetation have often been leveled for the same or such projects have led to the destruction of wildlife habitats. Hence, it is important to formulate ideas and architectural models not only conserve space, but also meet the people?s needs.

A design that is mindful of this is a parking system that uses a lift-based model in order to store twice the amount of cars than the normal capacity of a normal parking space. The car that initially comes in will be driven onto a heavy metal platform that will carry the car upwards through an automated pulley and chain system, making space below it available for a car that may come afterwards. Users of this parking space are expected to submit their car keys with the valet so that in the event of an owner of a car that came earlier would wish to leave earlier, the valet may be able to drive the car on the ground out of the parking to descend the car. Such models are especially useful in Smart cities where there are larger population densities due to the urbanization of the area. It allows establishments such as malls and office buildings hold more vehicles.

This model is particularly interesting as it has a variety of benefits. Firstly, it is an innovative method to house a large number of vehicles in just half the space. This means that there can be more space to use for other purposes such as cultivation and reforestation projects for the already depleted vegetation in these urban areas. It also reduces the requirement for the land the state to clear out and level, protecting the vegetation of the area while also preserving the wildlife.
