Smog is a name coined for the mixture of smoke and fog in the air. It is a visible kind of air pollution. It comprises of hazardous gases. These gases enter the air due to burning of fuels and certain carbon emissions. Hence, they severely contribute to air pollution. This poses a serious threat to human health, the environment as well as public property. This student has found an interesting way to solve these issues and fight air pollution caused by smog.
This project uses titanium dioxide (TiO2) to use the substances the pollutants are reduced into for various purposes. The efficient photoactivity, high stability, low cost, and safety to the environment and humans makes TiO2 the perfect photocatalyst. After reacting with sunlight and smog, this chemical produces a neutral salt. Through this model, air is made appropriate to breathe.
