On October 24, 1945, 51 countries came together to create the United Nations, or the U.N. as it is known to everyone. The purpose to start the United Nations day was to promote peace and cooperation around the world which is a requirement in today’s times. The event was to be observed by all member countries of the UN is being celebrated globally, as a part of the United Nations Week.
United Nations Day marks the anniversary of the UN Charter’s entry into force, and celebrates everything that the UN represents and has achieved since its establishment in 1945.
24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by Member States as a public holiday. Each year, the global network of UN Information Centres organizes a variety of events that mark the grand United Nations Day. It is a day which is observed consistently over the years for raising awareness on poverty as well as hunger making it one of the most important events to look forward too.
In short, to sum up , United Nation Day, above and beyond, is celebrated to remember the organisation of the United Nations and its agenda of promoting human rights, diversity and progress across the world.
