Crack Tracker: Blend of New Technology to Create Hazard Free Public Transport.
Transportation is the activity of taking goods or people from one place to another. Transportation is a critical infrastructure since a disruption in one of its components can have a significant impact on the economic and social wellbeing of a region of a nation. An effective way to assess how critical infrastructure is would be to consider the impacts its removal would have on the flows and activities it services. From an economic standpoint, the impacts of disasters are dependent on three factors; the nature and level of incidence of disasters; the level of exposure of populations and infrastructures and; the level of vulnerability of populations and infrastructures. From a social standpoint, the impacts of disasters can lead to loss of life, damage to wellbeing, disturbance to day to day activities, etc.
With the increasing reliance on distribution systems, any failure of transportation, due to intentional or non-intentional causes, can have very disruptive consequences. There are 2 types of disasters: natural disasters and humanmade disasters that can lead to failure in transportation. These are further divided into detailed categories. Natural disasters can be divided into extreme weather causes, sea-level rise, etc. and humanmade hazards can be divided into accidents, infrastructure failure, pandemics, etc.
How does the model work?
Crack tracker as the name suggests tracks any crack or malfunction in the system that can lead to any natural or human-made disaster and take further action to inform the required department. This crack tracker can be implemented on various transportation modes such as railways, roadways, and waterways. This crack tracker is implemented in the form of wire on these multiple modes of transports. Any disturbance in the wire that is the crack tracker will trigger the alarm, notifying the police department and other required departments according to the mode of transport.
In the first case, the crack tracker is implemented on transportation mode, railways. The tracker is placed on the tracks of the railways. Any malfunctions that take place on the railway tracks will trigger the alarm notifying the nearest 2 stations, on both sides. And the required department will be reported to take further action.
In the second case, the crack tracker is implemented on transportation mode, waterways. The crack tracker here monitors the level of water under the bridge. In case of water level rises to the damaging level, the tacker triggers the gates placed on both ends of the bridge to block entry on the bridge. And the required department will be notified to take further action.
In the third case, the cracker tracker is implemented on the transportation mode, roadways. The crack tracker here tracks for any cracks or malfunctions in the bridge. The crack tracker is placed diagonally in the bridge. If any malfunction detected on the bridge, the tracker would trigger the gates placed on both ends of the bridge to block entry on the bridge. And the required department will be notified to take further action.
Implementing a crack tracker effectively will eliminate a large percentage of natural or human-made disasters.
